FEEDING THE HUNGRY
Do you ever go to bed hungry? The matter - of - fact answer consistently given by the village children is, “of course!” Children are crying themselves to sleep at night because of the gnawing pain of hunger.
Drought, famine, tribal wars, and illiteracy all contribute to the need for humanitarian assistance. Hunger is no respecter of people, tribe, or age, and with extreme food shortages the death of animals and people increases. Continued lack of food stunts the growth of the little ones leaving them malnourished, anemic, diseased, and lethargic.
Starvation threatens those living in desert areas where rainfall is scarce and fertile ground nonexistent. The rural families depend on sufficient rain for planting, harvesting, and having an income. Lack of rain leaves them without food or money to purchase goods for their family. The need for humanitarian assistance is widespread as food prices escalate during times of drought.
Chai, or poor man’s tea, becomes a meal when food cannot be food. If they have a meal, it will be eaten at the last hour of the day to decrease the stomach pains and improve the quality of sleep.
By working together, we can reach out in love to those that are hungry and oppressed.
Thank you for helping us wipe away the tears.
